The Adenovirus (Hacking cough virus) has been doing the rounds and can last for up to 2-3 weeks (any longer and seek guidance from your GP) symptoms can include:

?Common cold
?Sore throat
?Bronchitis (a condition that occurs when the airways in the lungs become filled with mucus and may spasm, which causes a person to cough and have shortness of breath)
?Fever

Most people will go straight for the cough syrup, while these are good for decongesting your nose, loosening the mucus in your lungs and helping you get a good night’s sleep, there is actually little (and often conflicting) evidence from systematic clinical reviews as to whether they can “cure” your cough (they don’t!) but stick to the guidelines and don’t overdose and you should have a more pleasant experience!

DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT ASKING FOR AN ANTIBIOTIC‼️
Antibiotics do absolutely nothing against viruses, and not only are you weakening your own immune system taking unnecessary antibiotics you’re also playing your part in ushering in terrifying antibiotic-resistant bacteria!

What should you do?
Drink plenty of fluids! This will help thin out extra mucus and reduce the cough reflex
A steamy shower will help with decongestion
Sucking on cough drops will get your saliva flowing and ease your irritated throat (but also sucking on any hard sweet will give the same effect)
Honey and Lemon in hot tea has been shown to soothe the back of the throat (never give honey to infants under the age of 1 due to the risk of botulism)

If you have a fever Paracetamol is effective at regulating your temperature. You should avoid the risk of overheating, even if you are shivering with a raised temperature don’t wrap up (your body is just too busy fighting the virus to realise you are actually warm) Wear cool loose clothing and use a cold compress to help bring down the temperature.
